{dinner&theatre}

{dinner&theatre} was {productions} biggest hit. we came into our own as a company who did a little less for you, and a lot more with you.  we came into your houses (you invited us; that was nice!). we made dinner; we brought dishes; we did dishes; we played with our food.

like the pokemon of yore, {dinner&theatre} went through three metamorphoses.

first, it was a writers’ group.  we read a new play, and the next week, we put it on its feet{!} we ate lots of pie. we worked with some of Canada’s most amazing theatre makers who are now lawyers.

second, we changed our ideas of what a “play” could be.  we encouraged short pieces, found texts, found objects.  we kept the format: read one week, produce the next.

third, we decided to make everything, all together.  we chose a story we thought we knew. we chose dishes we thought we could make. we made plays while the food simmered.  Then we ate, and we played.  Ingredients could become puppets and ideas could become ingredients.  it was the way we always wanted it.
