It’s a strange time for theatre, surely, so it’s a fine time to do strange theatre, or in this case, a piece of theatre based on a pretty odd 1989 Patrick Swayze movie. Written by Brien Lang, the show has been described as half Mystery Science Theatre and half, well, Patrick Swayze in 1989. Not for the kids.
Yours truly participated in two versions of the show, one online in the early days of Zoom Theatre, and one outside, in the waning days of Peak Foliage. Both were Wilbury Theatre productions, and the second took place at the famed Providence attraction The Steel Yard.
I played the hero in the first iteration, the bouncer (“cooler”) Dalton, and then the two most slimy villains in the second. Here’s some notions, records of movies becoming musicals becoming live movies.
