“there’s only one colin syme”

Wilbury Theatre Group’s The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, by David Greig – Jan 16-Feb 9 (Extended)

we’ve all been to an academic panel that feels like a little glimpse of hell. for prudencia hart, expert and lover of scottish baladary, being snowed in and stuck with a undeservedly cocky mansplainer leaves her thinking she might prefer the fire and brimstone. little does she know, she’ll get to test her theory before the night is out.

Prudencia played at the Wilbury’s space in Olneyville and four pubs around Providence. I played the mansplaining professor, taking care that art does not, in fact, imitate life. In addition to portraying a cad turned unlikely mensch (or as the show termed it, a “knight”), I picked up the traditional Celtic bodhrán, and provided pitch-bending percussion throughout the Scottish “session” that began the piece, and to complement Prudencia’s descent into Hell (conveniently located next to the Asda/Costco parking lot)
